The archetype
In the tarot, The Devil is the shadow of The Lovers: the same two figures, now in chains loose enough to slip off, and they stay anyway. Six is the number of The Lovers: love, desire, the senses. So The Devil is 66. Desire, doubled. The card does not ask you to fear your shadow. It asks you to admit what you want.
Saffron and jasmine open dark and hot; amberwood and ambergris glow at the heart; leather, cedar, fir resin and ambroxan stay on the skin. Dark, dangerous, irresistible. For the evening, the date, the night you intend to be remembered.
